- purchased and planted hundreds of trees to offset carbon emissions.
- joined Buckeye Forest Council in litigation to protect one of Ohio's last old growth forests.
- lobbied in Washington, D.C. for public participation in key hazardous waste regulations.
- worked with Senator Merle Kearns and O.E.P.A. to increase public participation in lawmaking
process.
- hosted wellhead protection teach-in featuring Antioch Professor Peter Townsend.
- were member of Public Advisory Group for O.E.P.A. Source Water Assessment and Protection
Program.
- continued Federal Court battle with Southdown Corporation over contamination of Mud Run Creek
in Greene and Clark Counties.
- received assistance from Cleveland's George F. Gund Foundation for DEMOCRACY 2000 project,
helping citizens gain access to government.
- saw director Bruce Cornett reappointed by governor to serve on Ohio Environmental Education
Council.
- supported Vlllage Environmental Action Group's insistence that local industry be a good neighbor
and responsible member of our community.
- maintained and expanded GREENLINK, G.E.C.'s website-used by local nonprofit organizations
including the Ohio Environmental Council, Sierra Club and BW Greenways.
- as board member, helped formulate policy of Ohio Environmental Council.
- hosted Environmental Justice workshop that provided comments to U.S.E.P.A. regarding the setting
of new standards.
- represented environmental concerns at Fairfield Commons Earth Expo., Barnes & Noble, Yellow
Springs Street Fairs, Greene County Fair.
- worked together with Clark County and Springfield neighborhood group testing soils for heavy
metal contamination.
- served as clearing house, provided technical assistance for communities fighting cement kiln
pollution in other states and countries of the world.
- closed loopholes in regulations proposed by Dept. of Development for removal of gas storage tanks.
- fought to control sprawl and protect Beavercreek wetlands by raising technical questions to Oberer
(SPRAWL-MALL tm) permit.
- hosted sustainability workshop in Columbus featuring Senator Merle Kearns, Representative Sean
Logan and others, including Harvy Wasserman of Greenpeace U.S.A.
